To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Trowbridge businesses, residents, community groups, schools, churches and care homes are invited to get creative and display colourful planters, window boxes and floral creations in front of their properties or in their windows, from May to September, to bring a festive, floral outlook to Trowbridge Town centre and surrounding areas.
SUSTAINABILITY – Jubilee Bloom participants are encouraged to use sustainable planting, choosing plants that require minimal watering, no plastics, chemicals or compost containing peat, and ideally using perennial plants that can be replanted afterwards.
UPCYCLE – Organisers are looking for imaginative use of fun, upcycled objects such as milk churns, packing crates and vintage objects, which can be picked from local charity and vintage shops, or perhaps recycled cans, tins and containers. The best local business displays will be featured on the Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce website and social media.
ART COMPETITION – Running alongside the event, Trowbridge Town Council is organising a schools Jubilee in Bloom art competition and the winning designs will go on public display in the Trowbridge Town Hall gallery.
PERMISSIONS – Businesses that would like to display planters on the pavement outside their premises are asked to contact the Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce, which is coordinating approval for public space displays with Wiltshire Council Highways. Planters will need to leave a minimum of 1.5m of clear pavement space for public access and be covered by public liability insurance.
