Crowds gathered in Silver Street for the opening of the new Pitts Garden Shop in Trowbridge Town Centre on 19th April.
Matthew Webb, who owns The Nursery in Marsh Road, Hilperton has restored the famous name of H B Pitt to Trowbridge with the help of a £10,000 grant from the Future High Street Fund towards the £15,000 cost of transforming the premises, which includes historic features and even a cosy fireplace and seating area.
The historic building dates back to 1662 and has been everything from a blacksmith to an upholsterer, cabinet maker and milliners over the years.
The charming home and garden store will stock a wide range of seeds, bulbs, pots, fertilisers, chemicals, tools, gardening gifts and house plants.
The owner of the premises has plans to convert the space above the shop, part of which dates back to the medieval period, into residential flats.
